With an extensive career in public school education, Thomas has served as a classroom teacher in Lawnside and South Brunswick, NJ, and principal in Trenton and Burlington City, NJ. He holds certifications as a teacher, principal, and school administrator.
After spending over 20 years in education, Thomas ventured into nonprofit leadership in New York, New York as Executive Director at Boys & Girls Harbor. Together with the Board of Trustees, he helped to raise over $20,000,000 in public and private dollars to fund education and arts-focused programs, serving 500 students in East Harlem and Bronx New York.
Thomas knows the value of quality education and the role that teachers play in motivating the intellectual best of young minds. Therefore, it is his innovative programs and entrepreneurial spirit that led his colleagues to call him “The Creative Professor.” Thomas designed and successfully funded an educational model focused on positive youth development and teaching for intelligence.
It is Thomas’s commitment and belief in youth that he will use to recruit, inspire and mentor middle and high school students to aspire to be future educators in New Jersey.
Thomas holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Winston-Salem State University in Music Education, a Master’s Degree from Rider University in Education Administration, and a Doctorate Degree from Nova Southeastern University in Education Leadership.
