Tomorrow’s Teachers

Tomorrow’s Teachers

Tomorrow’s Teachers was established in 2007 as a curricular program for high school juniors and seniors interesting in pursuing a teaching career. The program uses the Teacher Cadet curriculum (Experiencing Education, 11th Edition) created by the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA). The course offers students valuable insight into the rewards and challenges of being an educator and the critical issues affecting the quality of education in American schools. It also equips these aspiring teachers with an awareness about teaching and learning that empowers them to become community leaders and advocates for education.

Each summer, CFE works with certified CERRA trainers to hold free trainings for new and returning Tomorrow’s Teachers instructors. These two-day training are hosted on an NJ college/university campus. It is recommended that teachers have a minimum of three years of successful teaching experience before delivering the Tomorrow’s Teachers course. Each trainee must be provided with a copy of the curriculum. The curriculum cost is $550 for those registering from December 1 through February 29 and $575 from March 1 through May 13. The cost for those registering after the May 13 deadline is $600. The 2024 training will be held June 25–26. Purchase of the curriculum comes with 1-year free access to the Teacher Cadet Hub (which includes the electronic copy of the curriculum).

Additionally, if you are looking to provide additional opportunities for your future educators to be inspired, such as conferences on college campuses and networking with future educators from across the state, start an NJFEA chapter. NJFEA chapters make great feeder programs at the middle and high school levels and recruit underclassmen who are not yet eligible to take Tomorrow’s Teachers.

CFE also partners with several universities to provide dual credit opportunities for students enrolled in the course.
